Nice, but I think a princess-cut (square) diamond would look better.
$16k for that ring? Humm...What is the weight/color/clarity? ...just curious because I've seen similar rings that were priced much higher.
My compliments on the design- This is actually similar to what I've always said I would give a girl if I were to ever propose. My plans have always been something like...at least 2.5ct (most likely 3ct+), princess cut, D-F color, and VS1 or better clarity, very good pol/sym, with the stone set in a platinum setting with smaller princess-cut diamonds channel set into the band. For the record, yes I'm into diamonds (as those that know me can attest), and yes the specifics stated above were largely due to the criteria I've heard from females. lol Anyway, simply stated- I like the ring.

^Well said
...and yes, I do realize what you are whining about- the concept of "conflict diamonds" and the way people in Africa (and certain other regions as well) are often injured/die due to land-mines in areas of former conflicts/wars- which incidentally is often the diamond abundant areas. There is quite a movement against buying diamonds from those areas, but the idea of lower priced stones coming from such zones is sure to cloud the view of many in the diamond industry. Overall, I do agree that it is horrible what often happens, but as a society we are much too centered on materialistic possessions to change our buying behavior due to social issues that are continents away from home.

Oh, and in all honesty. I just want a simple white gold band for my engagement ring. Also, I love the idea of using family rings as wedding rings. Also leaves me money for the honeymoon. I'm just pretty traditional when it comes to that stuff.

^^^^ & ^^^^^ I agree with you both, it is a beautiful ring.
I realize you are both somewhat new and so I figured I'd explain much of the behavior on this site before you are shocked: Unfortunately, it is often the case on this site for people to enjoy debating back and forth over such random issues- often it evolves from something totally differing from the original topic such as the idea of how the discussion swerved away from the initial point that it is a beautiful ring. Sadly, people on the site often enjoy debates and controversy and will often say/do whatever they feel is necessary to initiate such a battle. Pay no attention to it all, its mainly just people looking for something to say/complain about. I just figured I'd let you know about it all before you become surprised.

^^^Ok, fair enough- I recognize that it was an opinion. I just assumed that you were going to start a barrage of attacks against me as in the past. I recognize why you are "mean" to me and I understand the point you make about snobbishness, but I really don't intend to act like a snob at all. Although I can see how I might be considered such due to some of my posts, I'm sure that many who have met me in real life can attest that I'm not really snobbish or stuck up, but rather somewhat down to earth- at least I believe myself to me. Anyway, your points are well made and understood. For the record- I don't mean to act like an ass to you on the site, it just seems to happen without intention. hehehe

Isn't it just a fantastic time to start, though? Suddenly, you and your cabal feel as if you own the site because of your real-life friendships, which leads you to feel comfortable enough to bash other users because of the lack of posts they have? Isn't it fun to entertain such notions of competence? You could make fun of anything else: you could make fun of their looks, of their ethicality, of their morality, of their manners. Yet, you choose an insignificant would-be description of a meaningless number that only denotes the length of time that a person has been here and how many threads they've posted as an adequate representation of their intelligence, and the value of her opinion.
Let me just tell you something. This is going to be short and crisp, Rachel. I will be damned if an ignorant and morally abrasive trollop like you ever represents the ideal of USFBS for the means of restricting the open opinions of other users because of the length of their stay, and the number of posts they've posted.

Also, to keep formalities in order, the ring looks nice.
However, if the only thing that makes it significant is its worth, and not its originality, then there is something wrong with the entire picture. Personally, I think the ring is drab and ordinary despite its high price.

And to Rico, stop over analyzing things. I'm sure there are much better things to be done with your time than friviously typing out this interpretation to what I did.
And yes, I'm just so "ignorant and morally abrasive". You don't know me, and you don't want to get to know me, which is fine with me. These notions that you have of me are nothing near the truth. I spoke the truth. The girl is a newb, and that is all.

I love the ring as well. Kingpin- you are right, it would be uniform to put a princess cut in the center... Or with this ring, rounds or baggett diamonds on the side.
16 grand isn't much if you are looking for over two carats, heck that isnt that much for 1.50. The normal average for a diamond of a single carat (standard size) is around 7-10 thousand. Thats assuming its not a princess or Emrald cut, and that it's within the average color/clarity range (H-I/SI1-SI2).
So if you were looking for a crazy 3 carat ( I wouldn't suggest even IF you had the money- it would be assumed fake because of its size) You are looking around 30 grand, thats just off the bat for the diamond alone..
Pretty crazy stuff.
Here is my idea for my ring, either in white or yellow gold(the stone is a bit too small, because i couldnt get it to go larger, but you get the idea)

^^Perhaps my wording was confusing, but I agree with you- 16k for that ring is actually pretty cheap. Most of the rings that I've seen like that are much more.
As for what I plan on giving, I realize it will be in the range of 30-50k (already looked into it), but considering that my future wife (someday far down the road) will be wearing it for the rest of her life (ideally), then I'd want it to be something that is really high in "wow" factor.
As the fakeness issue, that really depends on the social circle in which the person is a member. I know a variety of women with engagement rings in the 3ct range (family, friends, etc.) and the question of fakeness is never even considered as it is somewhat common.
I agree with you that the average ring is 7-10k (I once considered giving a 1ct promise ring that was in that range- I know, this is somewhat elaborate for a "promise ring", but that was what she wanted), but must say that I don't like the average color/clarity you state- this is actually one of my pet peeves. I would never give a diamond that low in quality, but thats just me- I'm kinda picky when it comes to diamonds.
I must also say that I can't stand when I hear people bragging about a large carat size and then it turns out to be very low on the color/clarity scale. Quality should always be considered above quantity, but unfortunately, people often are slaves to the carat factor. If someone can't afford a large ring of decent quality, then they should opt for a smaller size with higher quality that is within their price range. It annoys me when I see people with absolute junk of a stone, yet they are bragging that it happens to be high in carat weight. Some people are so ignorant when it comes to diamonds, etc. Grrr...
(Note: I wasn't attacking your position. I was just going off on a bit of a rant regarding my preferences)

I think I am in love.. lol jk. You dont know how long I have been trying to convince people that the lady of their dreams will be wearing that piece of gold ( or whatever your preference is ) on her finger till death (hopefully). So a few thousand isnt much to spend.. (I study Gemology.. and I sold diamonds for around two years..)
30 thousand is quite an investment.. I think its a little too flashy.. but thats me, (and that is coming from one of the biggest diamond lovers ever!) But if thats what you are willing to pay for, then go for it! Just make sure she doesnt know that BEFORE you date.. or at all until you present her with the ring, then you will get a faint!

Wow. That is what she wanted!?!?!? For a Promise Ring??????!?!?!Crazy.. I would have broken up with her right on the spot for demanding such a high price to the relationship..

It was no offense to me, seeing that if i had an ideal situation it would be.. VS1, with color no lower than a G, Only going in that range because G is still bright (even though the chart standard ends with colorless at F, G in some circumstances is still considered colorless) and over a carat..
I was just stating the normal, average standard for buyers today..
As far as my standards.. then again,I am not buying myself the ring, so its up to the "future man" to ultimately decide that.

If a girl ever demanded a ring like that (or anything that high in value)..... I think I would have to send her on her way.
A girl should never expect anything from her guy.....
If he wants to do something nice for her, it should be because HE wants to do it...
Not because she demands or expects it.

^^Very well said regarding the "demanding" and "expecting" issues.
Although, I must admit- I like to treat a girl like a princess and don't really mind getting them extravagant gifts, etc. What I do dislike is when they start demanding things and don't appreciate what is done for them.

^^Thanks KingPin. Its just that I have read your threads before, and notice that you like to suprise and spoil your girlfriends (or who ever) and I think its a rare breed that spoils and doesnt have any bad motives (not into himself, not trying to be controlling) and is generally a smart, and genuinely good guy overall
With no offense, sometimes (only sometimes- for the sake of argument) men do that as a "distraction" or just becuase they have done things wrong, or whatnot.. (not all of the time for those who want to argue how good their guy's are.. because guys can do that sort of thing becuase they want to!)
I learned that from a "oh so wise" person, who DOES drool!!
