Yea, I'm in that class, I hate it. In fact I haven't been in the last couple weeks and I hardly ever stay for both sessions. I really just don't like him as a professor. For one, the whole African accent thing just makes him hard to understand sometime. Not a big deal, but...
And there must be something about him that just kills class participation, because if you notice, nobody hardly ever asks questions. Which makes for a real boring class.
This is my opinion, which you may or may not hold, but I think he infuses his own politics, mainly his dislike for Bush, into his lectures way too much. To mention him every once in a while is fine with me, I don't even care if you speak about him in a negative light (it's not that hard to do and still be correct). But for the love, it seems like this guy just can't get past it. Maybe it's my imagination, what do you think?
I think he's entirely to anal on his grading, as well. On one of the exams, there was a question about the Treaty of Wanghai, and what it granted to the US. The answers were Most-favored nation status, and extraterritoriality. So, that's what I wrote on the test. He even has, in the frigging book that he wrote, those two elements of the treaty written like that, verbatim. However, he took off a point because I didn't write "Extraterritoriality 'Rights'" on my test. Give me an effing break. It's not like I didn't know what I was talking about.
Anyways, this post is a lot longer than i expected...

One time in high school I actually melted this girl with my smile. I just smiled at her and she melted into a big blob, right there in front of me. So, for your own safety, you might want to stay away.

yea. i hate that class too. it could be so much more interesting but i agree that he does bring in his own politics too much. that's funny about that test question b/c i answered the same things that you did but he told me that they were the same thing, so i got marked off as well...whatevea...i tend to not go to that class...it gets worse and worse everyweek...he did give us the study guide last week though

Yea I have to actually go to class for once in probably the last 3 weeks, and get the study guide...
One good point of the class is the study guides! I mean they have exactly what's going to be on the test, so that really helps. Except when he's a douche and marks off for answers that are actually right....
