punk (CULTURE)

1 [u] a culture popular among young people, especially in the late 1970s, involving opposition to authority expressed through shocking behaviour, clothes and hair, and through fast loud music.

es·tab·lish·ment

Punk is anti-authority (the government [i.e. establishment] is authority).
You don't need a Ph.D to know and apply defintions.

Realize that the leaders of punk in this country right now are Avril Lavigne and Green Day (Who just released a CD with a freakin Operetta).
But let's be honest, who is the establishment right now: Bush.
When Kerry becomes elected, they can have a Rock Against Kerry. No one will stop them. But right now, it is Rock Against BUSH.

Kerry is a Senator, so techniqually he's currently part of the establishment.

Common Sense here: Who do you go for when targeting the Establishment? Some no name Senator, or the Head of it.
Usually you target the head.
Look back at Nazi Germany. You usually credit it to Hitler, not some German whatever they have. Again, you target the head.
And the reason I said No Name Senator, is because when they originally started the Rock Against Bush tour (What are they on, their 4th CD now?) that is all Kerry was, a no name senator. While you cannot say the same thing for Bush, President of the united states.

Condensing your attacks to one person who will only be there for 8 years max is pretty pointless. A lot of Senators have been there 20+ years. Most only get replaced because they die... They affect our lives more so than the President.

True on many points, but also know that to a majority of the populace, no one knows who their senators are. I'll be honest with you, I have no idea who the 2 senators from Florida are, nor who is my representative. But I do know who my President is.
Again, the President is the figure head. When the country does something good, it is due to him. If the country does something bad, it is also due to him.
During the Clinton Administration and the Impeachment process, who did you blame for wasting all that tax payer money? Clinton for being an idiot pig, or Congress for allowing them to waste money on such a petty thing?

This all depends on how the person feels about their President. Some people continue to say "The economy is doing better despite President Bush" instead of "The economy is doing better because of President Bush".

You should learn, we are voting for Senators very very soon.

Again, it all depends on who you talk to and how they feel about the President. Some blame Clinton, some blame Republicans in Congress.

Musicians should stick to making music and not trying to preach about politics.
And whether you like it or not, Bush IS your President, so get used to it. No sense bitching about it.

I didn't want to, but apparently saying Punk is anti-establishment isn't good enough for some people... I figured it was common knowledge.
