Normally the live in a 10 gallon tank but in the pic they were on a paper towel to keep them from getting everything wet.

You know you will have to get a bigger tank soon right?
They will outgrow that 10 gallon in two or three months (even just one turtle would).

Yeah, they're already getting big as that is an older pic; when they get too big they'll have to move home to a big tank and become my little brothers pets.

I have two. I have had them for 4 months and they are still in a 5 gallon tank. They aren't too big for it either. They are still small, and happy

If you have two turtles in a 5 gallon tank, they are definitly NOT happy.
You cant even keep one turtle in a 5 gallon... let alone two.
I have a 55 gallong tank with only one turtle.. and that is just barely big enough.
I feel bad for your turtles... no wonder you people keep killing them.

So for when I get my turtle what size tank do you suggest to start out?

To start, 30 gallons would be adequate.
That should be fine for about a year while it is still small.
But after that, you would need to upgrade to a 55. Turtles grow pretty quickly... so keep that in mind.
Other things a turtle NEEDS to be healthy:
-A basking rock with a heat lamp. (Turtles are cold blooded, and regulate their heat with their surroundings. A cold turtle = an unhappy/unhealthy turtle = a dead turtle)
-At least 4 or 5 inches of water. Turtles eat in the water.. and like to swim around most of the time.
-A filter for your water. If you do not filter your water, it will become stagnant. Stagnant water will allow nasties to grow which are unhealthy and stinky. Also, the turtles will produce wastes that will accumulate. A filter will help with this problem.
-Water changes. You need to change the water in the tank at least once every two weeks. This will ensure that you have clean water, and will remove some of the wastes that produce toxic ammonia. It will also keep the smell and disease down.
-Varied diet. It's important to give your turtle a variety of foods. Changing the food every now and then will ensure that your turtle gets all the nutrients that it needs to stay healthy.
If you follow these guidlines, you should have no problem keeping a happy and healthy turtle. It's important to do your research BEFORE you go out and buy one.
If you ever have any questions, feel free to ask.

she is about 7 inches... but still just a baby.
People dont realize that these turtles will grow to 12 inches or larger.

^good analogy. you can control their size with tank size. when they get too big for the tank, it breaks or they die.
